Tyres or Tires for a T500

Post by Fritz500 »

I perused all previous posts looking for info on the best tyres for my T500. I'm after something that looks "ye olde world".

I'm based out of the country right now so I can't cruise the tyre shops.

Any thoughts?

Dunlop Vintage Bias K70 and K81. You can see them here: http://www.tiresunlimited.com/motorcycle_tires.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Fritz, the best tyres that you can get are Dunlop TT900. I can't tell you who in WA stocks them but they are available in Melbourne.

Avon Roadriders are also really good if your local distributor brings them in.

Nether of those looks totally "Olde Worlde" though. See if you can get TT100/K81's which are totally period. The small K81 front tyre comes in GP compound and is good enough to race on. Not that you want to, but it's a good tyre and looks correct.

Bridgestone BT45 are also very good and we did race on something very similar back in the day, so they are more or less period correct.

K70 are OK but were never the stickiest tyres on the market.

I would stay away from the TT100s. They look really good, but they are a bad match to the T500s handling. They fall off really quickly and much too far for the slow steering T500. Stick to a more round/gradual profile that may not give the max cornering power of the TT100 but will have much more comfortable handling.

Thank you one and all for the responses.

I want the Suzi for tonkering around to ensure all road users do not have their road safety compromised blah blah blah but there is this one ramp onto the freeway that does have a 270 degree bend and it is so much fun to...oh well you know.

I always found ground clearance (the stand grinding on the road) was a limit in the good old days, not the tyres.

Any other folks got more tyre suggestions? Pressures etc

Cheers

sorry but I will have disagree on that one.
the TT100 tires are excellent.
if they came off the rim then it was badly or incorrectly fitted.
I've never had any problems with mine accept they wear out to quickly.
I use to put tt100 on the front and avon road runners on the back.
as far as handling goes they were excellent.
as far as the UK concerned they are or were brilliant.
