anyone use these rims or seller before?

Post by SV Titian »

They seem like they will work and a fair deal. I live neat the Ocean so the SS seems attractive. Not sure if the spoke pattern is the same, any input is most welcome as always.

It's nice to see what appears to be an honest seller for a change. Lots of info and a warning:
It is recommended that you check with your lacing shop as well before purchasing.
What he's saying here is that redrilling MAY be required to fit these rims to certain hubs because the angle of the spoke holes as currently drilled MAY be off slightly. Since the rims are stainless, there's no worries about ruining chrome if redrilling is required....but it's a pain nonetheless and whoever spokes them onto your hubs WILL charge more if redrilling is required.
These rims may or may not be a direct fit solution.

At the end of all this.....caveat emptor.

1.85/2.15 seems narrow for the bigger bikes.

H2, Youre awesome and super knowlegable, thanks for all your help! My wheel guy is a typical Ca sufer, lazy and over charges. I doubt he could even deal with drilling. Think I will keep looking for some OEM rims.

i'm pretty sure the t500 and gt750 wheels are still available brand new from suzuki for around $75-$80 each.

Nope, Dennis, those are the standard rim widths for all the bigger bore bikes in the 70's. This includes the 500, 550 and 750 Suzis.
The 380 used a 1.85 on the rear and, I BELIEVE, a 1.60 on the front
due to the smaller stock tires used on this model.......3.50 x 18 RR and 3.00 x 18 FR.

Thanks for the tip, I will check tomorrow with my local dealer, that would be alot better than paying Paul Miller $270 for two and waiting weeks to get them..

Paul Miller is selling the exact same wheels you can buy from Suzuki, just marking them up more. Suzuki still sells a surprising amount of parts for these old bikes. Always best to check there first, to see if its still available from the OEM.

Also, its usually easier to check for the parts yourself at one of the online OEM parts houses. If you do want to buy the parts from your local dealer, know exactly what you want ahead of time, part numbers in hand. If you just walk in and say I want a wheel for a 1970's such n such, you'll probably just get a blank stare, or an immediate head shake.
