T350 piston weight

I'm getting all the parts ready to rebuild my T350 and I was wondering how much difference in weight the pistons can be before there is a vibration or other type problem. One piston weights 180.4 grams and the other weights 178.3 grams. Is two grams enough to worry about? This is what happens when a High Tech Engineer with OCD starts playing with small engines. Thanks for any help.

That old pounder will never even notice a 2 gram difference. Keep in mind that you are not typically running the engine over 7K RPM. If it was a modern squid bike with a 16K RPM red line, I'd be concerned....but it ain't.....and you shouldn't be......unless you intend to run it constantly at or near its limits.

Usually you can switch Wrist pins,Bearings,Clips and Rings around and make up for that 2 Gram difference.I got my T500 Balanced within something like .25 Gram

I weighed the pistons bare, but that is a very good idea. I will measure with pin, rings and clips to see what the difference is. Maybe I can get them closer in weight. Seems like it would vibrate less even thought I'm not running it max out all the time. I do have a bad habit of twisting a bikes ear a little more than I should. Got several blown motors to show for it. Thanks for the answers guys.

Hi, I noticed your reference to blown motors, I don't suppose you have a spare set of barrels for to get rid of? cheers

I do have a spare set of barrels that came off the bike that I got the crank out of. I don't know their condition other than they had standard pistons in place and one barrel has the exhaust flange threads messed up on it really bad. That would have to be repaired by an expert. They might need a rebore. I don't have the measuring tools to check them. I do have my T350 up for sale. Good set of barrels on it!

Photos are accessible, are the GT 350 barrels the same as the T350?
If you have a set of barrels off the bike, some snaps would be good, cheers

Kmil, nice mods to your T350. What wheels, front end & shocks did you use?

Think I saw it advertised for sale some time ago. Would have expected somebody to buy it by now. But it seems like the market for these old bikes can be a bit fickle.

I'll try to get some pictures of the barrels and post them. It might take me a while. There is no such animal as a GT350. The guy I bought the bike from thought it was cool to add the GT to the side covers when he had the bike painted. I can't take credit for the mods they were done by someone else. The wheels are from a GS450, the front forks are from a GT380 and the shocks are some type of bought off E-bay nameless shocks. The engine has heads from a 1971 Rebel 350 but the rest of the bike is a standard 1971 T350 with matching numbers. It all works and rides well with the exception of the rear shocks being about an inch to long. It causes the swing arm to hit the rear foot rest mounts when fully extended. I listed the bike for sale some time ago and lots of people wanted it but nobody wanted to buy it, if you know what I mean. Everybody wants something for nothing. The engine only has 150 miles on it since the total rebuild. I got busy with my race bike and everything took a back seat. Ya'll keep on smoking!
