Re: Timing and Smoke
WOW! That certainly is a lot of smoke, especially ater a fast 14 mile ride. With all the other advise, I suggest you remove the SRIS valves from the crankcase and drain any excess oil out. Be very carefull of the little filter screens if they are in place because they are no longer available on this planet.
Bad float needle valve or a leaky sunken float - the later most likely. What causes that carb overflow like that?
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: Timing and Smoke
Hmm a Suzuki mosquito fogger disguised at a GT550, yup its got some residual oil still in it for sure, but it looks like you're on your way to clearing it up.
I can only imagine the way that looks going down the road, four billowing swirling smoke trails following you.
As Coyote said drop the SRIS valves and let it sit for a while to see how much residual oil comes out, plus the carbs need looking into as well, so nows a good time to check and recheck everything, replace whats needed and clean them out fully.
If the carb is overflowing it could create some of the 'four stroking' you were taking about as it floods that cylinder when you are riding.

Two strokes, its just that simple.

Re: Timing and Smoke
It actually didn't smoke nearly that bad when I was going at 50 mph.
It's going into the basement this week for the winter and to have the carbs rebuilt. While it's there, I'm going to take the exhaust off and drain the SRIS properly.

Re: Timing and Smoke
In the video the bike seems to be running quite decently so i'd suspect you have fixed most of the issues, its mainly the oil left in it thats now smoking up the planet and a full carb rebuild.
By the way that rear sprocket looks very small, I'm saying this because the chain guard is overhanging quite a bit. Whats the tooth count on that sprocket.

Re: Timing and Smoke
I'm glad to hear it's running decently, at least on that short video. I will be re-doing the carbs this winter, and we'll see how well it does come spring....

Re: Timing and Smoke
She sounds healthy, Joe. A carb rebuild and sync, drain the crank chambers, put in a fresh set of plugs, check/adjust the timing and she should be good to go. It might take a while to burn the crud out of the mufflers, though.
I wonder what the PO was using for injection oil ?? In this country, at least, the only stuff I've ever seen smoke that badly in ANY stroker is Castrol Two Stroke oil......and it's stinky, too. Pretty low-rent stuff, IMO......not even fit for weed-whackers.

Re: Timing and Smoke
I'm fairly sure it was Pennzoil Dino outboard oil he was running.
Thing is, he ran it for probably 100's of miles when it was badly misfiring and possibly running on 2 cylinders. So all that oil in the non running cylinder had to go somewhere.
