Yes, folks, ANOTHER stroker drifted into my yard about 2 weeks ago or so. However, this time it's a SINGLE cylinder machine and NOT a dirt bike.....so I'm not quite sure how it fits into my multi-cylinder ethos.
None the less, she's a 1976 Hercules Moppet model 505P with a Sachs 1.8Kw (~2.5HP) screamer of a motor. Torque (if it even exists) is not specified in the owner's manual.
She'll actually do 50km/hr (~30MPH) indicated....although the speedo is not in very good shape so can't be relied upon.....but she FEELS fast.

Re: My Latest Acquisition !!!
Well, not quite, Mark.....but the manual says 156 MPG......but they don't say whether that's an Imperial or US gallon. I'm thinking an Imperial gallon. The fuel tank holds 4 litres so that's pretty close to a US gallon. At 30MPH it would take ~5 hours to empty the tank. I can't imagine riding on that seat for 5 hours straight, though.but probably good for 1000 miles to the gallon.

Dennis, as much as it might be a fun trip, what with going slow enough to take in ALL the scenery, I don't think the old girl would be able to "make the grade(s)"....figuratively or literally.... ....never mind the wind blasts from passing cagers and 18 wheelers.

Re: My Latest Acquisition !!!
Nice moped. I use to work for a Vespa dealer as mechanic. I found the mopeds and scooters to be FUN! It will be a nice change to ride around on that for a while than a motorcycle. I would not of course give up my bike for a moped.....

Re: My Latest Acquisition !!!
Husson, all it really needs are new tires/tubes (available in the US) and a new speedo. The original speedo's plastic lens disintegrated eons ago and the mechanism is dusty/dirty and so doesn't work too wellyou could find parts in Europe
.....although it DOES work. Otherwise from that, she's raring to go.
It looks like I might have a sale locally to a guy who's a real scooter fanatic. I know him reasonably well and the Moppet will be going to a good home....although he might just be going to sell it on and make a few MORE bucks. Hopefully it'll end up with someone who'll appreciate it as a "survivor".....even if it IS a moped.

Re: My Latest Acquisition !!!
moped is great Rick and if you fit on it GP 50 race tyres as I did on the later 70s, you could outperform bikes on hard curves: did it and the face of the bike rider was incredible !
