thanks, but I have a nos set of tubes and a nice set of lowers I will be using.
There may be other parts I need along the way though but I don't think anything stock, we'll see.

why use NOS on a cafe/ project? i cannot see that bike as your star project, there are better in salvage yards i am sure. You may find a real candiddate for them someday.

I agree with Rick completely!! That is very nice workmanship, and attention to detail. The Honda did equally well in your hands. I have no doubt that the Y brand 350 will see the same fate. You must have strong connections with a plating company, with the amount of chrome I see, having been brought back to life. A tip of the hat, to your skills and effort. Cheers.

ahhh, the 69 T250, the one that got away, I probably never should have sold it, but i did get really really good money for it. Sold to a local guy, I should look it up sometime:-)

It was built over about a 3 years period, inbetween working and other bikes I did.
I convinced the local chrome plating mob to put in a cleaning bath for 2 stroke mufflers on the promise that I would send
club member business to them, I did that but they have changed hands now and their work has suffered for it.

The yamaha YR3 is not going the same way, I have decided to leave it looking pretty much like it is, just make it safe and rideable.
The motor will come apart completely for rebuild so I will blast the cases, I'll do some alloy polish and a new seat, the rest will be
hand scrubbed and left.

Thanks, but I am sure there are others that do better.

Not long after I finished it I rode it to a VJMC rally, about a 2000K round trip.
For the ride I put a 1 tooth larger sprocket on the front to keep the revs down in top gear, it was a mistake as I had to change down a lot more on even the slightest uphill grade.
Apart from that the bike performed like a brand new'e, which in reality it was and was very comfortable.
The ride took in some horrid rain, really really heavy, I rememebr at Coffs Harbour we pulled into a garage and the complete tarmac was covered in about 2in water, on leaving there
a truck passed me in the opposite direction and and a wave of water fully enclosed me like I was surfing a tube wave at the beach. You remember stuff like that and it makes the trip even more interesting.
On arriving at the rally I spent 3 hours cleaning it, I took second in my class, I was beat by a really good T20 but the judge told me he had to take points off me because I colour matched the tail light bracket, instrument surrounds and the headlight brackets, stock they were black.

Our next rally is March 2011 and at this stage I plan to ride my 65 Black Bomber, or maybe my 66 T20

Ok this project is going a different way now, am going to shoe horn a RG250 motor into it now. It will take longer due to the frame mods required but I reckon it will be worth it
and it will go like stink, still going to use the old school drum brake on it though, stopping will be very exciting

You really a talent for working on these old bikes and for UNDERSTATEMENT.........

Basically I just think of something and start however the frame mods will be done by a school days friend, he has just bought a tig welder too, he did the frame mods on my FZR250 with T350 motor.
I will be learning the tig when he does it , from there it is virtually the same as building a stock T250 with rearsets and clipons.

We will get the motor and radiator in, I will then complete a rough finish so I can ride it and see if there is any vibration that needs attending to, and then I will strip it to the floor and complete the pretty stuff.
It will probably take about 12 months overall but it is lot of fun.
