unfortunately the trick of easing the alternator off the end of the crankshaft with the small threaded bolt on the inside protecting the cam end and the larger one on the outside pushing it off did not work in my case.
I managed to bend one of the large bolts (used as the exhaust pipe bracket) and flatten the end of my self-made bolt which i cut a groove into for a screwdriver.
i'm a bit in the crap right? BUT, if i get the crankshaft off with the alternator still on, then can't i just knock it off with a mallet hammer?
all advice appreciated. help...

If at first you don't succeed, just get a bigger hammer !
