quick question - is a T500L supposed to sound a bit whiney ? as soon as the clutch is let out a whining sound emits from the drive train - it doesnt get any louder as you go up through the gearbox and is the same sound through all the gears - its been like this for the last thirty years that I have had the bike but someone mentioned it to me yesterday and its got me wondering if they all sound like it or not I don't know of any other bikes around to do any comparisons with.

To be honest, I'd say your 30 years of experience with the bike outweighs a one-off comment / observation ... or, to put it another way, if it doesn't whine any worse now than it did 20 or 30 years ago, and hasn't caused you any problems in that time, leave it well alone
Worst case, treat it to 1400cc of nice fresh gearbox oil over the winter.

+1 on the advice given...if everything is working,,,changes up & down smoothly,no false neutrals or jumping out of gear...leave it alone,as mentioned change the gear box oil,as a rule Suzuki boxes are very good !
