Gas everywhere!

Post by James73 »

So I finally got a new headlight assembly (not a fun or cheap experience), and I was going to take her for a ride. Went to kick start it, and I nearly fell on my ass when it didn't even move. I got it to start with quite a bit of trouble, and gas started pouring out of the left pipe. Not just a drop or two, there was a spray pattern on the concrete. The bike had been sitting for about a week or so. The bowl on the left carb has been wet with gas (but not dripping) for a while, so I'm assuming the gasket probably isn't sealing completely, but would it be a good assumption that I just got a little dirt in the carb? Or do I have a bigger issue? (73 GT250)

Sounds like the fuel tap is leaking, or you left it set to 'prime'. It's filled the carb floatbowl and has flowed into the motor too.

The float needle will need checking, and maybe the fuel tap too ...
