Oil tank eye level window

Hey guys, I just bought a replacement set for the oil level view for my 1974 Suzuki GT 750. I thought I would ask for any tips or steps to follow before I try to replace it. Also, has anyone had a bike painted the orange that came on the 1974 GT? I am thinking about going back with a similar color, but it doesn't have to be original.

Thanks for your help.

Have I actually found something that not everyone knows how to do? Seriously, guys, I really would like to learn how to replace the sight glass in the oil tank without having to break one first.

Thanks.

Doesn't it just unscrew from the tank, or am I confusing it with something else? That's entirely possible.

There are a few really spectacular metallic orange paints from HOK and others. I'm a cheapskate and used a Duplicolor rattle can of metallic (Burnt) Orange and Max 2K clear. It's redder than the original but close enough for what I was after.

Yep - nothing to it really.

For the paint - for a match to the original colour, if you don't have a good sample that you can have matched by your painter, then the only place that seems to do a decent job is RS Bike Paint in the UK at this link. To date, the fellow I've been using has been able to accurately match any sample colour I've given him, so my assumption is that any reputable painter should be able to do the same. 8)

Screw the old one out and screw the new one in. Do not over tighten. Finger tight and about 1/8 turn with the appropriate spanner.
