Suzuki 2 Strokes

I'm going to change the coolant in my GT750 and was curious about other people's experience concerning the use of Bar's Leaks. I have a late A model and was wondering if improvements were made so it was no longer necessary. Where do they usually leak?

I also have an A model and mine does not leak. I imagine yours is cracked somewhere. I don't like radiator stop leaks if that's what you are referring to ? They create more problems than what they are worth. It would be easier for you to find a good used one on ebay. I see ones priced around 50 bucks all the time. Then there is a guy selling a brand new reproduction for around 200 if I remember correctly. Can't beat this deal, he's even willing to go lower. I'm with pearljam. I don't recall one ever leaking and Barrs Leaks is a big no-no in our household. Barrs Bugs on the other hand is a great product.

I wasn't implying that I have a leak nor would I use additives in any of the fluids unnecesarily. I suppose it got misinterpreted because I posted in the "Repair" forum. I was referring to the service manual which indicates Bar's Leaks was added at the factory and says to add it when changing. I certainly won't be adding it to mine but just curious about Suzuki's motive and other owner's experiences who chose not to add it during service intervals.

Bar's Leak was specified in the shop manual (page 62 in the one in front of me, or also on line at this link). I only bother with it on the first radiator coolant fill after an engine rebuild. When just changing the coolant I don't bother.

Anyone got any ideas why Mr S thought that was a good idea? COuld it be that they were not convinced that the water would stay inside or did the good sales people at BARRs manage to convince them to use it?

There really is no good reason to use a leak stopper IMHO.

I think the idea behind it was --- should the radiator develop a pin hole (from a rock or whatever) the Stop Leak would seal it before it became a major problem. That's just a guess.

I'm of the same opinion as well Chris (and I like your footer by the way ! ) . The other thing was that the shop manual was written for the J and not really updated much afterwards, and in the J you don't have the o-ring seal on the water bypass line between the crankcases that was introduced with the K's. Just a 'belt, braces and hanging on to your trousers with both hands' engineering approach.

All makes sense to me. After all, how many water cooled bikes were on the market in volume production when the J was designed? Not a lot.

Hi,only two "OTHER" production two stroke motorcycles ever the Scott "Flying Squirrel" & the Vellocette Le 200, both out of production long before Suzuki "reinvented" it in 1971-1972.I've seen & heard a Scott running, sounds VERY similar to the GT750!!!?...
