ok, I got the old pump out, now my question is, do you have to heat up the housing to put it in? I would say no because this would or could hurt the o-rings, but this is my 1st time. the old one was a bitch to get out so im thinking the new one is going to be hard going in, also I noticed on the water pump cover bolts, there was silicone or something on every bolt, do you put silicone on the threads?

Also, I noticed that there is supposed to be a o ring that goes between the impeller and the shaft, well mine was missing it? Any ideas where to get this? If I had the old one I could go the the store and get a replacement but I don't even have the old one to compare....

No heat fitting it, just a little grease or vaseline on those O rings and it will slip right in.

The tiny O ring under the impeller is probably still in the top (bottom) of the stainless steel "seat". There's a recess in there to stop water moving up the shaft.

ok, so should the new pump have the o-ring? and if it does is it under the metal seat or seal? when i took the impellar off there was no o-ring between the impellar and the shaft, so another words when you take the impellar off should there be an o-ring there? or do you also have to take that metal seal off to get to it? I got confussed when I saw a diagram of the pump, I saw the o-ring and im not sure exactly where it goes, so just to clarify if i got a new pump assembly it should already have the o-ring under the meatal seal? or should i need to take the old one off? I think i need to get a better picture of the pump....

Like this one ? The small o-ring is the 5th item from the right. Its on my site at this link.

That tiny O ring is probably already inserted into the impeller face of the steel seat. If not, that's where it goes on the new pump and that's where you will find the one on your old pump. If the new pump is missing that O ring, slide the seat off the shaft of the old one and pick out the O ring.

Ok, thanks I had to get my glasses, I guess I'm getting older than I thought, I could not see it! But it is there thank god.....well I still have the bike on it's side I'm waiting for the pump cover to come in, I found a used one and now I'm waiting for it to come inso I can finish, I thought about j.b. Weld for the cracks on my cover but then I found a good used one...hope my bike doesn't get used to being on it's side....

ok so does anyone know if I should put silicone on the bolt threads that hold the cover? I would think no but all the bolts looked like they had some type of sealant, also is there a torque spec for the bolts? thank you all for the help!

Those bolts are all supposed to go into capped holes. In other words, the top of each bolt hole is not open and therefore there is no way that oil or water could escape.

In practice, it's not unusual to find that a PO used a longer bolt that may have popped the top off teh threads allowing oil or water to escape.

A little RTV is normally not needed, but it won't hurt either.
