Another water pump question

Hi all, I have not been on here in a while, but long story short I was going to rebuild my gt750 motor but I have some medical issues I'm dealing with so I decided to hold off, the motor runs fine now , but the water pump is leaking oil, so my question,,,,,,,what are my chances that I can replace the water pump without taking the motor out and splitting the cases? I have a new complete water pump on it's way , If I have to take the motor out and split the cases I would rather just rebuild the whole motor at that point, although I would rather not do this now, or should I just keep ridding and see if it gets worse? After about a 10 minute ride if I put it on it's side stand will have about 8or10 drops of oil.

The water pump can be removed in the bike.

Ok thanks for the info, but is there any other way than drilling into the upper case? How many people have had success with pulling on the shaft after the impeller is off? Just wondering what my odds are

Eddie, I would definitely try to pull it out first. It's not always totally stuck. If it is stuck fast then the drilling method is always the back up plan.

Ok sounds good , that's what I was going to do just didn't want to mess up the shaft and then split the cases , or I could drill like you guys said, sounds good when I get the pump I will try, thanks...

Eddie, are you fitting a new pump or repairing the one you are removing?

I have ordered a new complete pump, I am not rebuilding my old one, I just hope the shaft is the same size on the new pump as it is on the old pump, I have read where people have got new pumps and the shaft is a different size, I will try to save my old one. I was thinking that if I get the pump out and I screw up the shaft at least I will have a new pump and shaft to put in (as long as it is the same size shaft). I did not want to try and rebuild the old right now, maybe later, also I checked my crankcase fluid and it was a little over full, maybe a couple of ounces, i thought i will ride it and see if it still leaks, but I think it will, I really didnt want to drill into the upper case, so if i damage the old pump, and I cant get it out, Im SCREWED!!!! and then I will be forced to just rebuild it, but not untill my health is better...

The pump will come out of the crankcase.
On a running bike, I drain the water and remove the gas tank and carefully lay the bike on its side on a thick blanket. Then off comes the center pipe and water pump cover ( on second thoughts, do that while the bike is on its wheels)
Then remove the impeller and large circlip and the pump will come straight out.
