Front Disc Pads Replacement for my 1974 GT750

Post by ilbikes »

Hi Guys, I would like to see the page/pages of a factory manual wherein they describe and illustrate front brake pad replacement for the disc series GT750's if someone has a copy they could scan or fax. I've found a new set of sintered pads that I'm going to put on mine. I have done several restorations and brake rebuilds over the years, but I would like to see how the factory directs the replacement.

Recently I had a humbling experience when I changed the brake pads on the rear of my 2009 Honda ST1300. I spent several minutes removing the caliper and internal bolts then had a monster time getting the new pads and spring back into place while trying to bolt it all back together with the caliper still connected to the swingarm - way too many pieces and working from under a fender. I opened the factory manual that I've had since buying the bike 4 years ago to get the torque values only to see "Procedures". Had I read those first, all I had to do was pull 1 pin and those pads would have slid out of the end of the caliper. Replacement is a <1 minute task when done per the manual. This is one of those classic examples of knowing too much (or so I thought). Oddly, the green factory manual I have for the GT750's does not cover any frame or brake components repair.

Inputs appreciated! Thanks, Gordon

Some will remember this restoration/build about 5 years back -

Thanks Conner, this is what I wanted to see. I'm going to print a copy as a supplement to my engine manual.

Best Regards, Gordon
