GT 550 starter o-ring: cross for 09280-22004 ?

Post by bill in okc »

It looks like oil is leaking out of my starter cover. There is an o-ring 09280-22004 that goes around the starter where it fits through the case that I think needs replacing. Suzuki says this part is NLA. Does anyone know the size of this o-ring? If not I'll find out and post up what I find.
Thanks,
Bill

Where are you located (that's a hint - please update your profile with at least a country :D ) ? Till recently that was a good part number in the USA for the Nippon Denso starter as I've bought them within the past 8 months. If you can't get a good measurement off yours, PM me and I will see if I still have one I can measure for you. 8)

Hi oldjapanesbikes! I have updated my profile - I guess outside of the USA, okc doesn't mean much but I am in Oklahoma City, OK. I can measure mine when I take it apart, just hoping I could have it already so it could go right back together. I have been searching all the usual places but so many of them say NLA/no longer made by Suzuki that I'm reluctant to order one from a place that doesn't say NLA.
Thanks,
Bill

As I suspect its a recent de-listing, it is possible some places actually will still have it. Reiner (GTReiner1@aol.com) usually is a good source for hard to find things, but something like this you should be able to find in a local shop. The exception to that is those odd 1/2 width sizes that Suzuki likes to use :? I'll check to see if I still have one and measure it up. 8)

Industry Dash no. 023 "O" ring will work. 1 1/16 ID X 1 3/16 OD x 1/16 W.
Metric "O" ring, 26 X 30 X 2.
If you can't find the exact size "O" ring, find one that is close (as long as it is 1/16 in. or 2.0 mm wide), cut it to fit, and Krazy Glue the ends together!
Cliff.

Thank you! I found the 26mmx2mm o-ring in buna-n rubber so that should work. Now I've got to hope this really was the problem :)

Hey Bill. Dillon's (very reputable) shows that o-ring in stock at $1.17. The have a toll free number you can call to verify.

I wanted to follow up. The o-ring fit perfectly and appears to have stopped the leak. Half of the old o-ring was laying in the starter cover. I didn't realize how low the starter sits in the transmission oil and when I pulled the starter I was in for a mini gusher. I also found the front bolt of the brake torque arm was about to fall out while I was snooping around under the bike so that was a bonus when I found/fixed that. Thanks for all of your help.
