72 and 73 GT550 Carb Differences

Post by jaycee69 »

Ok so here's the scoop, i have a 1973 gt550 and i need a R/H carburetor. so i searched Flea Bay and all i could find was a R/H carburetor from a 1972 Gt550. it looks the same as the 73 but im not sure if it is. does anyone know the differences if any from 1972 to 1973? im mainly interested in if the bodies are the same, my internals for my carb were ok its the carb body that was broken.
thank you for your help!

I take it you looked up the carbs and the part numbers are different?

I looked in my Parts books but the parts have been superseded so much it just got confusing so i gave up on that idea. im thinking that you could just change the internals but again im not 100% sure

According to my parts book, the 'J' carbs were on engines to 13201-34015 then they changed to the 'K'. There are lots of different part numbers between the two models and the pilot jets are slightly smaller on the K. Even the float bowl gaskets are a different part number, so not sure regards fitting bits from one to the other as the parts book doesnt even give choke sizes. So much for the only differences being colours and the disc brake.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
