I am slowly restoring my GT500, it is probably at least 12 years since it last ran (a couple of years before I bought it) and while the pistons (0.5 over size) and bores and other internals look fine, I am a little concerned about the internal crank seals.

I have seen it suggested here that these dry out with time especially if the bike is not run, and it has spent (probably) 5 years with limited oil in the sump. These was some surface rust on the crank weights that I have cleaned off with steel wool.

If I proactively change the seals and o-rings while I have it apart… am I likely to need bearings etc? I see from elsewhere on this Board that:

"These Suzuki cranks don't usually need bearings unless there has been a catastrophic failure."


I can probably track down a good workshop here in NZ to do the work, but are re-build kits available other than individual parts through eBay?

The o-rings and all the seals except the outer right side are still available from Suzuki here in the U.S. For that right side, I'll need to order from England probably, or get one on eBay. I'm not crazy about the idea of a N.O.S. eBay seal that may be 10 or 20 years old already though. Since the European dealers can still get that right side seal, maybe your dealers can as well?

many years ago I had mass separation of a left pistion. The only part left was the dome. >1,000 pieces went into the lower end. I cleaned it the best I could but after the rebuild (about 2k miles) the outer bearing went. Other than hard debris or lack of lube. the crank bearing should be OK. I always have the lower con rod bearing changed when I have the seals replaced.

Thank you for that. I have found a local guy who can (and was recommended) do this work. He suggested that the big end needle rollers would probably be OK, but that he would definitely replace the cages (if I can get them).

For the T500 crank the follow applies for stock parts

The crank seals are available in the US but the right side one isnt, it is however available in the UK.
The o-rings for the main bearings are available in the US
The con rods are not available.
The main bearings are not either.
The big end pin is available
The big end bearing needles are available
The needles cage however is not available
For some weird reason the T500s lower big end bearing was sold in pieces.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

09283-35002 RH oil seal - US$16.70 ex japan
09283-30003 Middle oil seal - US$22.20 ex japan
09283-25014 LH oil seal - US$8.70 in NZ
09280-76001 o-rings - US$4 in NZ

09160-24007 rod thrust washers - No longer Available
12215-15010 needle roller cage - No longer Available
09261-03009 (x32) needle rollers - US$4 in NZ
09269-25003 (x2) RH & LH bearing - No longer Available
09269-30002 Middle bearing - No longer Available

(I converted to USD as that they will mean something to most on this Board :D )

I can confirm your info Allan from looking at US and UK webpages. However does anyone know anything about MotorCity Power Sports Michigan? they quote prices for ALL of the components even the bearings, but I am unable to place an order as their webpage demands a US Zip code in the address, and I do not seem to be able to reach them by email.

Given that I want to support my local guys, I have ordered the seals here at my local.

I don't understand all what you write but if you are looking for main bearings (or con rods) I have some news.
The price for 32 needle rollers is 4 dollars ?
Don't change the washers.

Thank you Dinogt. Hopefully I will not need crank main bearings, because I have not had anything like a motor failure and the bike has only done low kilometers.

The price that Suzuki New Zealand quoted for the needle rollers was US$4 EACH or US$128 total. I have been told that the rollers should be alright. However I was advised to replace the cages, but these seem to be unavailable.

Merci Dinogt. Si tout va bien je n'aurai pas besoin de roulements principaux détraqués, parce que je n'ai eu rien comme un échec de moteur et le vélo a seulement fait de bas kilomètres.

Le prix que Suzuki Nouvelle Zélande a indiqué pour les rouleaux d'aiguille était le total US$4 CHACUN ou US$128. J'ai été dit que les rouleaux devraient être bien. Toutefois j'ai été conseillé de remplacer les camps, mais ces derniers semblez être indisponible.

$4.00 USD a roller? thats some super hot pricing there, I'm glad they don't cost that where I bought mine from.

Yes, I prefer, and it can be less expensive I think, I know a bearing builder who has those pin bearings... I will try to remember
