Repairing/refurbishing Buffalo turn signals

I want to try and refurbish my turn signals which means pulling them apart. It looks to me as though the stems can come apart from the body ? I have taken the nut and bolt out and can see the spline that holds the stem in place but ... I'm not sure how to extract the stem from the body. It looks as though it should just pull out. Any suggestions from those that have already tried this?

Thanks, Mike

I was going to separate the turn signals from the stems on my GT550 and it looked to me like the bodies are molded on to the stems during the casting process. Rather than take the risk of ruining the bodies, I decided to refinish the stems while attached to the bodies and just masked off the bodies.

If someone has successfully separated the stems from the turn signal bodies with no damage, please post the information.

Thanks.
