First off hello to everyone as I am new to this board
I am the proud new owner of a 1975 GT380 3100 miles has been sitting for many years. So while in the process of a tune-up the nylon timing gear becomes broken
My question is this can I or should I go with a used timing gear ?
Also might anyone here have one available ?
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated..

According to Motor City Power Sports, that gear is still available. Pricey at $42.00, but there aren't any substitutes. Part # 12571-33032.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

these usually break by the owner turning the engine over by using the bolt in the centre when setting the points/timing etc - its best to take the alternator cover off on the other side and use the bolt on that side to turn the engine over.

Re: HELP! 1975 GT380 Nylon Timing Gear
Or, easier, put the bike on the centre stand with the tranny in 5th gear and then use the rear wheel to turn the engine over.....with the plugs out, of course. You can get quite adept at laying on your side with the meter and points plate in front of your face and using your foot to turn the rear wheel.....and it's relaxing too, especially with a pile of pillows for your head to lean on.its best to take the alternator cover off on the other side and use the bolt on that side to turn the engine over.
