Crank Removal Recommendations

Morning everyone,
I've been tearing apart the '69 T500-II parts bike I acquired about 8 years back, and I am on the very very last piece. I can not for the life of me, get the crank out. Is it typically this stubborn when it comes time to remove them? This is actually my first complete teardown of a T500! Any words of advice or cautionary tales? My T500-2 service manual doesn't mention anything about crank removal...
To complicate matters, this engine has had a smattering of warning signs. There are JB Weld patches all over the inside and outside of the case, although nobody actually put the 1400cc mod in there! I've been finding that many of the parts have been stubborn due to residue of JB Weld or other bonding/sealant agents. The last thing I want to do is be hitting the crank end upwards with a rubber mallet to knock it loose, but I'm afraid that might be the only thing left that I haven't tried!
Cheers!
