'74 GT250 clutch "growliness"

Howdy, haven't been on here in awhile, but I'm having an issue with the clutch being sort of growly in neutral which goes away when the clutch lever is pulled in.
I remember reading a couple of years ago about that possibly having something to do with the length of the clutch spacer but couldn't find it in a search, I'd be grateful for any help as I currently have the clutch apart and have 3 spacers to choose from.
Thanks for any ideas- Mike

Lots of times it's simply a matter of loosening rivets in the clutch basket. Another cause can be a loose primary drive gear, which is not too good, and well worth checking. If all nuts are tight, it's probably the basket and not a very big worry.

You may also need to look at the baskets side clearance in relation to the collar. The T500 had a similar issue with this requiring a skimming of the collar to reduce the 'float' of the basket and reduce some clutch noise.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks a bunch!
I used the shortest spacer and took .003" off one end with a sheet of 320 grit silicon carbide paper on a surface plate, reassembled everything and road-tested it- pretty dramatic improvement, I can still feel a little bit of vibration that goes away when the clutch is disengaged in neutral, but much less than before. It also seems to rev up more freely and run noticeably smoother in the cruising range. I'm quite pleased with the improvement so far, thanks again for the help, I appreciate it.
