UPDATE, Crossreferanced the T500 part # and it crosses to the GT500 number so all of this has been unnessessary. They are the same!! SORRY for the trouble. But thanks for the help.

Finally had time to take my spare Trany down to have the Crank rebuilt and check oil leak. Found left side seal tore up and needle bearings had galled up the counter shaft race (shaft the clutch basket is on). Also the shift rod going through the counter shaft is damaged.

I have a spare T500M counter shaft BUT the part number is differnent than the GT500a shaft??!! All the other parts for the trany are the same that go on the shaft (bearings, clutch basket/plates/drive gear). CAN I USE THE T500M SHAFT FOR THE DAMAGED GT500A SHAFT.

ALSO I cant find the shifting rod on any of the parts breakdowns? Anyone know what the number is or have a spare??

Thanks Dofin

I found the rod. It's number 13 on the Alpha SPorts breakdown, but listed as NLA. I think Jeff made one out of an automotive pushrod......

Duuu, guess I need to have my eyes checked, there it is # 13. Sounds like i might have to fab one like Jeff did. thanks

Up date researched the T500 part # and it crosses to the GT500 number so all of this has been unnessessary. SORRY for the trouble.

Thanks for taking the time to look up the parts.!!

I did it on a GT550, not a GT550. I used a pushrod off a solid lifter car motor that I found in a junkyard. I think it was a Chevy. It's been 25 years

Jeff, Im gonna try to find a OEM used push rod first. I have some leads and hope to get the tranny back in its frame by mid January. Im also rebuilding the Forks. It will be the finish of a personal goal to get both of my GTs up and running with rebuilt cranks and fresh Cylinders/pistons. Cant wait to have the twins standing tall side by side again. Dofin

Dofin,
Do you need part #23111-15001? There are two of them in the countershaft. Do You need both?

Stu, I only need one. I cant believe the needle bearings went bad like that!! the rod on the drive side broke into. the one on the clutch basket side is okay. Would you have one?

Do you have any suggestions as to what might have happened to cause the needle bearings to go bad. Is that a common thing?

For any one, Also the bearings on the replacement counter shaft have rust, I havent found a place to get some new ones. Any suggestions>>??Thanks Dofin

Dofin,
I found an extra tranny I'd misplaced. I've got the small bearing cage and outer race for sure. What are you calling the countershaft - the one that the cluch hub mounts on? I'll have to see if I can get that bearing off without hurting it. It's stuck on pretty good. Let me look around some more for a clutch pushrod. I may come up with a good one.
