T500 Oil Pipe Banjo Bolt Thread Sealer

Post by Syd »

Hello - Can anyone recommend a good thread sealer for the four T500 oil pump oil line banjo bolts that screw into the engine cases? I see Suzuki makes reference to using a sealer in their original workshop manual.

1-2 of the banjo bolts will start to weep oil after a while. The washers are fine and the oil line check valves are ok when you first nip the the bolts up, however over time the bolts must loosen up and oil weeps slightly from under the washers.

The original plastic washers have long been discontinued. Suzuki now sells aluminum sealing washers, which I've had no success with.

Have had good results with stat-o-seal washers. Also referred to as sealing washers. They are metal washers with a rubber sealing surface. I do not use any sealant.

A number of companies manufacture them. I get them from here:

I've used the same washers with success too. I do still put a really light smear of silicon gasket sealant on the banjo thread.
I've always known them as Dowty washers thru my time working on and maintaining hydraulic systems. When i wanted some for my GT500, I found exactly what i needed searching with ''Dowty'' as a keyword.
