Hi all , stripped my recent project GT 250a down to bare frame , only problem I can see with it is the top mount for the rear shock is Stripped beyond repair , nut was held on with what looks like exhaust putty
Had a close look and it looks like the threaded part could be a stud screwed inside the bare mounting part , I'm hoping thats the case
Does anyone know for sure ?
If not what's the best repair
Thanks
They may have used JB Weld or something similar to attach the nut.
For an issue like this where my attempted repair might make things even worse, I take it to a vintage/older bike shop. If they have been around for some years, they will have done this type of fix before.
A shop could clean off all bad material, add material & cut new threads. After it’s fixed, I would use a torque wrench to tighten the shock nuts.
BAS (Bike Acquisition Syndrome) - too many bikes but have room for more
Thanks jabcb
I've been thinking of putting a helicoil in the acorn nut and re tapping the thread to suit , nothing to lose really and metric thread is courser than the finer original so it could work .
What do you think ?
If that fails it's probably an engineering shop for your suggestion , not many old bike workshops in Ireland
