I am dismantling a 1972 GT 550J for restoration .
I have removed the clutch basket and primary drive gear.
According to the manual the starter gear should also slide off.
In my case this part does not want to come off easily.
See attached photo.
Is there anything else holding this on that I am not aware of.
Is there possibly a pin in the hole in the spacer that should be removed .
Any advice would be appreciated as I don’t want to break this unobtainable part.
Thanks
Chris Bouwer

Re: GT 550J starter
There isn't anything holding the sleeve or starter gear - they should pull off the shaft easily. Perhaps due to lack of oil in that area by a previous owner, they are tight on the shaft.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Re: GT 550J starter
Thanks for the advice
I was able to get it off without damage by using a bearing puller.
