Hi everyone,
I am about to bolt up the cases on my 380 but which half do you put the Threebond on before bolting up. Do I fit the crank and gear shafts, seals etc in the bottom half then coat the bottom half with the sealant working around the seals, bushes etc or do I coat the top half with the sealant and drop the top half onto the bottom.
It's just I don't want to block any oil passages in the lower half with sealant.

Re: crank cases
Yes, and only use a 'smear' - or thinly 'butter' the flange using a penknife or similar
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Re: crank cases
All the parts are in the bottom half. So it’s easier to apply the Threebond to the top half.
I apply a bead of Threebond & then use a finger to smear it around.
Position the connecting rods to make it easy to feed them through the top half when assembling the cases.
Did the GT550 a while ago, which is similar.
The kick starter shafts tends to not want to stay put.

Leave the plug (part #14) for installation later. I use a small spring clamp to hold the bushing (part # 11) in place.
The plug has a slight taper on the OD to make it easy to tap into place.
Use a smear of Threebond on the plug OD to act as a lube & the plug taps in easily.
The factory probably used something like a painting roller to apply sealant to the top half. And had a specialized tool to hold the kick starter shaft in place during assembly.
One of the UK GT750 experts sells rebuild DVDs on eBay. Very useful tips. He applies the sealant to the top half & uses his fingers.

Re: crank cases
I'll check if they are still available.
Must admit, I never stripped & rebuilt a Kettle motor, but he does it for a living.

Re: crank cases
I bought it a few years ago from eBay seller Bluesmokebaz. That ID is no longer valid.
Looks to have switched to bluesmokebaza. See this listing that ended last month:
