ramair gt250 engine question

Post by dollydog »

i thought i knew everything about the ramair gt250's, having rebuilt them since the early 80's, but one thing has always puzzled me. in the lower crankcase on some engines there are drain plugs under each crank. on other engines there aren't. i've got engines from the same year and they are both different. just started rebuilding a couple of engines from 1975, both gt250m, and one engine has the drain plugs, but the other doesn't. the castings are different in that area, so you can't just drill the 2 holes in the crankcases without drain plugs and tap them m10 x 1.25. exactly the same on 73 and 74 engines, some have, some haven't. not the end of the world, but if the crankcases ever fill up it's so easy just to undo those 2 drain plugs to empty fuel out. just wondered :D
cheers, dd.
