1975 T500 rebore now won’t run

Post by Exnatalia »

Have a1975 T500 that i have restored. Original engine was very noisey do to worn pistons and cylinder. So did a rebore and fitted Wiseco piston and rings. Now won’t run. If i use starter fluid can get it to run for maybe 10 seconds. Otherwise just fires a few times.

Have double checked carbs, points and timing but still will not run. Have tried kicking for a few days.

Temps in 40s and 50s. A 1970 i have fully restored starts fine just need the choke to get going. Have tried choking it.

I’m frustrated, any suggestions?

Thanks

If you turn out drain screws on bottom of carb bowls, do you have good fuel flow ? Float set ? Slides in correct carb ? Piston in correct cylinder ?
Seems like a fuel issue but starting fluid can make ignition issue appear as fuel issue.

Just clutching at straws but my 550a did same after full top end rebuild in Feb.started and ran fine for 10 miles then wouldnt start.tried another set of plugs, new, had decent spark but hey try everything.then looked at carbs.re checked slides ,etc.drained all good.still no start.then took both air filters out.started 1st kick.one filter was eaten away the other looked not too bad.new filters, oiled up has run perfectly ever since.
