I recently had a conversation with an old engineer I know. I often go to him for advice and he is very competent. When i showed him the two different types of gudgeon pin retaining clips I had available to fit on my GT380, he told me that one was a good design but the other was severely flawed by design. The genuine Suzuki clip is designed to get tighter if the bevelled edge of the gudgeon pin pushes against it (a good design). The Cruisin Image clip that came with my pistons however is a different kettle of fish! This type has curled ends that bend back into the centre of the hole in the piston allowing them to be easily fitted and extracted with a pair of thin-jaw pliers. You would think this would be a good thing but....this means that the flat edge of the gudgeon pin will press against the clip before the bevelled edge does, thus pushing it out of the hole. Cue broken clip, damaged piston, rebore and possible damage to crankshaft etc.
I just thought that it might help a few guys on here to save them hassle of an expensive engine rebuild. I'm rather glad I took the sensible advice from some of the guys on here to get and fit a set of genuine Suzuki clips. Not only are they sprung far stronger than the aftermarket equivalents, they are also better by design.
Suzuki, better by design...hasn't someone already used that phrase as a marketing tool?

Re: Gudgeon pin clips
Or you can buy them from Robinsons foundry (original Suzuki) for less than that inclusive of postage.
