stuck GT380 rear brake lever

Post by jabcb »

The GT380 oil leak & oil pump are fixed. Carbs cleaned. Started fairly easily & it ran much better than expected.
Now on to a few cold-weather projects.

The rear brake lever is stuck and doesn’t budge if you pound on it with a heavy rubber mallet.
And penetrating oil didn’t help.

Is there a puller that will hook on to the base of the brake lever?
Any other suggestions?

The rear brake lever is attached to the splined actuater shaft and secured by a pinch bolt. Once the bolt is removed a large screwdriver pushed into the slot wiggled from side to side. A bit of pulling should free the armature off. The actuator shaft can seize in the alloy drum but once the drum is off gentle tapping may push it out. I always apply a smear of grease on the actuator every time the drum is off. Hope this helps

That’s for the advice, but I’m trying to get the brake lever off of the frame. (The other brake lever).

Sorry got the wrong end of the stick(literally) how about applying some gentle heat to the lever maybe it will expand a bit.

Problem solved.

Applied penetrating oil every day or so.
Then lever started to budge when I really pounded on the pedal with a rubber mallet.
Used a small pry bar to create axial force + continued pounding to move the lever back & forth.
