T500 Steering Lock removal?

The ignition switch has been replaced on my '74 T500 resto project. Is it possible to remove the lock cylinder and re-key to match the ignition? Or I can probably rekey the new ignition to the lock if I order a new pre-cut key.
Thanks
Mark

A competent locksmith will make a key that works in both.

I'm just wondering if I can be that competent locksmith. Does the steering lock come apart? If not I will order an oem precut key for the steering and then rekey the ignition switch to match that. I know from past experience they arent too hard to do.

Not something I have attempted myself.......but I guess you could. They must both come apart.

I received the new oem key to fit my steering lock, which works fine. I then disassembled the ignition switch and changed the tumblers to match my steering lock key. I found it to be as easy as Yamaha re-keying. So now one key fits the entire bike. Result!

Both options are possible - I show the how the lock comes
apart at this link, and the ignition
at this link. Making the ignition match the lock is perhaps a bit easier, but neither option is difficult. Good luck !
