GT250 Spoke Lacing w/ pictures - Do these look correct....

Post by Tom Garcia »

I can't find the hi-res photos I took before I left Georgia of the front and rear wheel assemblies of my GT250...and now have no point of reference up here in Ohio...

I want to start lacing up the aluminum wheels this weekend...

Anyone have a couple shots to see the cross/skip lacing pattern?

Many thanks in advance....

Tom

If you have the right spokes, then it's almost impossible to get wrong. If you can see the rub marks on the hub it's a useful cross reference, but when all else fails grab a picture off the web.

Lay out the inner spokes first in position in the hub and position the rim over the hub and spokes and see where they go. Look at the upper side first and then make sure the other side will end up in holes that match.

There are 4 different holes x 9 times or 10 times. left inner, left outer, right inner, right outer.

Assemble the inners first, then slip the outers through and loosely do them up.

Tighten the inners evenly all round and true the wheel with just the inners first. that is the fast way to get it 98% right. Then tighten the outers evenly and tune the wheel that last 2% with all 4 sets.

Of course that assumes the rim is round and drilled properly.

Let's see, you put the left spoke in, you put the right spoke out.... :D

Here are two pics of the rear wheel...

Can someone verify the lacing looks correct prior to my spending the time to true? Lane? TZ?

Many thanks in advance!!!!!!

They look right to me. The trick with wheels that I finally worked out after building I don't know how many is that the spokes have to align with the holes for the nipples. If they are right at the rim, they are right.

It's almost impossible to build a wheel with spokes in the wrong holes. Not impossible, but you can't get all 4 sets in holes if they are in the wrong places. Sometimes you can persuade a couple to go in, but you can't assemble the wheel (as a rule)

Yours is spoked the same way as my GT750 which i rebuilt so it must be right

Now true the inners first and tighten the outers and you will amaze yourself.
