Double Carb Bowl Gaskets?

My left carb is weeping gas from the body/bowl juncture on the intake side.

I cleaned the mating surfaces thoroughly and put new NOS gaskets on when I refurbished the carbs. I tightened all the screws gradually and evenly. I checked the tightness and they're all still snug. I don't see any cracks or flaws. It weeps enough to drip about once a minute. The right carb is gas tight.

I've got two more gaskets coming. If it's still leaking after I r/r the gasket, can I double the gaskets in case there's a little warpage in the body or bowl to get a better "squeeze" on the assembly?

Thanks.

sounds like the fuel level is too high in that carb. Check that the needle valve actually seals properly.

Double gaskets will just about guarantee that it will leak because it is bowed. The bowls tends to bow when the screws are over tightened. The fiz is usually a new float bowl but sometimes they can be lapped or machined flat again.

I hope you didn't polish the bowl mating surface. Parts need some 'tooth' to correctly bite the gasket. And I agree with Alan. The fuel level is too high.. Even if the float needle isn't seating properly, it shouldn't leak there. Also fuel is by-passing your petcock or the drip would stop in short order.

I have a Pingel manual petcock so I can shut off the fuel, no problem. I just didn't trust the vacuum OEM one.
When I get the new gasket and pull the bowl off, I'll recheck the needle & seat (new needle/seat installed previously) for grit and will adjust the float level a bit. I have a good steel straight edge and will check for warpage. Never happened to me before, but there's always a first time.

Thanks.

Agree that if float height is set correctly, fuel should not be reaching the bowl gasket to leak, if on the center stand,

One thing that's happened to me, I had an external leak at the petcock. Fuel would (ever so slightly) run down the fuel lines, and ultimately drip from the carbs. First thought it was bowl gasket, then was convinced it was the bowl drain screw gasket. But turned out to be a petcock leaking at the lever.
