Crank orings

Im hoping you guys can help me out on this one.
When my crank returned from being rebuilt the crank bearings had orings in the channels on them.
Of the two GT550 cranks I took apart, neither seemed to have orings on them. Also none of the drawings I have looked at have the orings.
The shop I used seems pretty professional and knowledgeable. Is this a common practice now? Or should I toss the orings?
