Crank orings

Im hoping you guys can help me out on this one.

When my crank returned from being rebuilt the crank bearings had orings in the channels on them.

Of the two GT550 cranks I took apart, neither seemed to have orings on them. Also none of the drawings I have looked at have the orings.

The shop I used seems pretty professional and knowledgeable. Is this a common practice now? Or should I toss the orings?

I guess no one else has encountered this. Any opinions?

Well from what Ive gathered. Many 2-stroke motors use o-rings in the grooves to keep the bearings outer from spinning. If the bearing has a pin then the oring is not necessary. From what Ive read it doesnt hurt to have the orings in there as long as there is a groove for it and its not keeping the bearing from seating good in the race.

Anyways, maybe this information will help someone else.

The only bearing on my cranks that have a groove is the one on the far right. None of the rest have a groove nor is there a groove in the crankcases for a snap ring except for the far right bearing. They all have the lock pin, except for the one with the snap ring groove.

They may have thought like the 500 , the bearings would have O rings on them .. the 550 does not .
