Hello all - Can anyone tell me how do you remove the small bearing (# item 5) which takes one end of the gear shifter cam - see the attached parts drwg. Is there a specific way of getting this out of the crankcase? The other problem is I see Suzuki made a mod with a new design of crankcase which now has an oil seal after the needle bearing. My bike is 1975 M model, however it has the original crankcase with no oil seal.
The end of the gear shaft cam which fits the bearing is also different than as shown on the drwg as it has a slot in the end of it that fits directly into the end of the switch.
Tried sending the parts drwg, however have been advised - Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.

Your crankcases are the older style but still a 1975 model year, Suzuki was just using up their old stock. You'll need the longer bearing.

Thanks for your reply.
This is where its a bit confusing - see the link to the Suzuki Service Bulletin

under gear shifting switch. I assume I need to get another bearing # 09263-16006 needle bearing which is the original older longer bearing compared to the newer shorter bearing # 09263-16012 which now backs up to the newer oil seal?
Getting back to my question, the original longer needle bearing seems to be a pushed in hard fit - do I just knock this out and if so, from which side of the crankcase?

Look for a socket with the outside diameter slightly under 22mm and use that to drive out the bearing. It is a press fit into the case and shouldn't matter which way you drive it out. Probably from outside in would be the easiest!
Why do you what to remove the bearing??

Thanks for the info - I will give it a go. I am completely restoring the bike and after stripping the engine apart, I found that oil has been leaking past the bearing which in turn has resulted in some fine material getting into to bearing from oily sludge and dirt that had caked up around the outside of the switch.

If you want to update your case, check with a bearing supplier for a drawn cup needle roller bearing 16X22X12MM (Suzuki part # 09263-16012) and a seal 16X24X7MM (Suzuki part # 09284-16002). Take the case, seal and bearing to a machine shop and see if they can machine the bore to accept the seal.
