I've done the timing before, but don't think I had it correct. The manual states to set the point gap then do the timing. At what point is the gap set in the cycle? I'm using a dial indicator.

Also if anyone has a basic easy stupid it ain't that hard guide that would be helpful.

I think my mind be playing tricks on me.

Set the gap when the points are fully open and then rotate the motor until the points close. Rotate it a little further once you fit a dial gauge and determine the point (no puns intended) at which the points just start to open.

The ignition fires as the points open so that's what we are looking for when we set timing.
