Re: Why is only one pipe smoking???
Im going to have to re evaluate the situation. There was a large pool of motor oil under that exhaust port area. Not 100% sure, but I was so upset that oil was everywhere I mildly determine that it came out the left exhaust port. That was the only place that I found a trace of oil on the block. But, then again the exhaust port flanges would have been lying in it.

I shall get on to checking the seals - thanks for the advice. Finally, the oil has ceased draining out of the screw hole - I thought it was never going to end. I got about 300mls in the end.

), I noticed that there has been oil splashing on the frame etc behind where the oil pump sits. This perhaps is what you were referring to in the above comment about it coming out if/when overfilled?

Re: Why is only one pipe smoking???
just wondering if you ever checked the seals? and not that i know what im saying but i had the same thing going on with mine (smoke from one side) 1st make sure the seal are good like they said, I was not able to do this at the time but I did figure out what was my problem, it was the carbs, when i rebuilt the carbs the 1st time I thought I had set all the floats the same, well on my 2nd inspection one was slightly off (i mean slightly!) I have 2 different books and both had different instructions on measuring the float level (with gasket and without gasket on the float bowl area) I went and measured 1st with the gasket and put it all back together and it stopped smoking from only one side! It was my left side though and i think what happened is it was not getting the right amount of gas and possibly just burning more 2 stroke oil than gas? im not sure but it fixed my problem I hope its not your seals ! you might want to check carbs before you give up!

Yes Mike two things can cause the oil to come out by the oil pump cover hole, one if its over filled and two if the crank seals are leaking where they will pressurize the crankcase and blow out the oil.
Overfilled by 300 mls will do that too as you have seen where it bathes the frame section behind the cover.
I hope it was just overfilled and nothing more.

Two strokes, its just that simple.

Re: Why is only one pipe smoking???
Bit of an update. The oil oozing out of the level hole is getting curiouser and curiouser (as Lewis Carrol once wrote). As noted, I managed to get about 300mls out of the hole and then it stopped - suggesting the oil was at the correct level. I rode her a couple of times and then took the screw out again after it sat for a couple of days. Guess what ... oil came oozing out of the hole again. After it stopped coming out I let her sit for a few more days and took the screw out again ... and oil began oozing out the hole once more. So, it would seem that I have a machine the creates oil!!!!
Finally, the motor was drained and I got about 1.7 litres out of it.
Question: How on earth can the oil keep coming out that hole when there is less than the appropriate 2.2 litres in there?
Oh, as suggested, the oil lines and check valves were gone through and found to be non-functioning. They have been replaced with a set from another bike.

Re: Why is only one pipe smoking???
Yeah, good point. I realise now that with the knackered check valves there would have been 2 stroke quietly flowing into the motor. I've now drained the motor and refilled with 2 litres of oil so I can start anew so to speak. With the oil lines/check valves replaced there should now be no 2 stroke getting in there. Time to monitor what's happening.
