From the photos they don't look bad at all - if they spin freely, and engage OK when you toggle them through the changes by hand, and if the shifter forks are in good shape then I'd suggest you are probably good to go. I forget what year you said this was, but I'd just double check the needle roller bearing on the shifter drum under the selector indicator switch is good. If the gear indicator switch has been changed in the past sometimes there is grit in there.

I finally remembered when I've seen gold or copper plated gears in a transmission - it was a bike that the owner had used STP engine treatment in. Ruined his clutch, but it did make the gears and inside of the case sort of honey coloured :D

Hey Paul,

The gears look fine, but is that a bolt broken off flush with the lower case half? I have had four sets of cases and all have that 6mm bolt broken off.

Hey Richard,

Umm, don't rightly know, I don't think so.

I'll check again when I get home, but I think it's just full of s__t from sitting for so long.
I spun all the bolts out with a rattle-gun and they all came out easy and AFAIK were all intact.
I'm not going to use these cases anyway as they've taken a knock around the countershaft area from a wayward chain, plus I have a good set ready to go (water-blasted and lookin' fine 8) )

As far as the gears are concerned, I think these will be fine.
I have much worse than these in the shed, but I'll go through everything again and put aside the obviously bad one's.

Thanks guys
Paul
