The first task on the re-build and I need advice already
The new Genuine Suzuki seals have a spring on both sides, I always go for the spring on the oily side so now I am flummoxed. The old seals are well gone so I cant make any comparisons unfortuately. Do I use the other usual approach and fit with the writing on the seal outermost ?. A correct call now will prevent a grown man crying at the thought of having to re-strip the forks.
Thanks h2thief. a logical answer to minimise the pain
I have however after much deliberation (aka "f*%k it, writing side up) the seals are now installed for better or worse. Forks now assenbled and ready for oil
Yep, good call Zunspec. The extra garter spring on the "writing" side of the seal is there to add a little more "dirt exclusion" strength to the seal. Most replacement fork seals are made that way nowadays.
