oil pump threads

Post by jasper »

While I am replacing my oil pump seals I would like to address it's stripped threads. I'm not sure if it's a bleeder or a stop bolt, but it's the left hander that sits proximal to exit path of oil to the cylinders.

Can I just buy a left handed tapper and replace the bolt? It looks specialized.

Has anyone used silicone gasket maker on this bolt with any luck? The pump body has enough thread to hold the bolt flush, I just can't obviously tighten it well.

Thanks

Some additional information would be helpful eh ? What type of bike ? Are you referring to the lines into the crankcase or a fitting right on the pump itself ? Got a photo ? 8)

Sorry, your right.

T500 and lines to the crankcase.

Should be the only left threaded bolt on the oil pump.

Oh - so this one labelled in the photo ?

If so, then that's a critical item - I suspect you may have to replace your pump but someone like Pete can confirm. 8)

I have been using this pump for years with no oil leaks or air bubbles. If the only risk is that the bolt could back out, couldn't I just put a dab of jb weld on the outside of the bolt head for safe measure? Their is some thread left, I can just tell I will loose it by tightening it to hard.

I have repair that thread on occasion by converting to rh thread using a helicoil and using another bolt but it is a bloody fiddly job and if you dont have the kit its prob easier to buy a s/h pump......... i've got a few by the way

By any chance, would anyone know if you can get an overhaul kit (orings and seals) for a kawasaki H1 500 triple oil pump or if not available, would anyone know what the oring and seal sizes are? - thanks.

Fred Sauter sells the rebuild kits for the Suzuki twin oil injector pumps - check this thread: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8422" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; 8)
