gt550 tighten exhaust

Post by carlo »

Hej
I would like to know, is it necessary with new washers in the cylinderports after disconnection the pipes. Or with some creme of a kind. There is always oil around the clamps and down, even the bolts are tightened.
Thanks for answer

You can often get a couple or three uses out of them, but the gaskets are a 'crush' style so typically it is best to replace them. Also - you want to be sure that the bolt is loosened on the rear pipe hanger before trying to tighten up the exhaust flanges. Once you have the headers tightened up - tighten the hanger bolt last.

Also make sure the exhaust clamps are not against the cylinder. If the clamps are flush with the cylinder, you're not getting them tight. Typically there is about 1/16" (1.5mm) space between the clamp face and the cylinder face when fully tightened down. This gap is adjusted by turning the clamp in or out on the header pipe.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.
