GT550 crank / bottom end rebuild tips

Post by Craig380 »

The August 2012 issue of Classic & Motorcycle Mechanics had a very interesting article by Stan Stephens (very well-known UK 2-stroke tuner) about a budget crank & gearbox rebuild he did on a GT550 motor.

The article mentioned a number of crank & gearbox bearings from other machines that are a direct replacement for the Suzi items, at a lower price and easier to source too. Here are the key examples:

- big-end bearings are identical to Yamaha 350 YPVS big ends
- crank main bearings are the same as Suzi's RGV250 mains
- gearbox output bearing (behind the drive sprocket) is the same as a Yam 350 YPVS

Hope this is useful to someone.
