Media Blasting GT750 Cases

Post by water cooled »

At the end of our race season, I sent my GT750 cases to John Gilchrist of Parts Blaster located in Madison WI.

Here are the results after soda, glass then walnut blasting. Cases are bare metal.

Hope you didn't do the blasting twice too!
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Looks fantastic. I pretty much did the same thing. Turns out looking great. Downside, you 'll have to keep after it ( polish ) quite often to keep it looking that way. The good thing about painting the cases, you only have to take a rag to them every so often. But, paint doesn't look nearly as good in my opinion. And will eventually peel or show it's age. Be sure to post more pics when you have it installed.

Ian, I was very reluctant to drill that hole through the serial number but thats where the chain guard needed to mount. I figured my motor is modified to such an extent that no one would ever want those cases and I could never see myself selling them.....so that was the spot I picked to mount the front of the chain guard. Great catch by the way. You have an excellent eye! :D

Everyone has to run a chain guard...part of the requirements. Ive been told (by the committee) that mine is slightly under spec. So I opted for a Pingel guard to fit this winter.

Yours is under sized - and you are such a big strapping lad.

What are the rules on chain guards then? I thought they just had to have one without specifying size or length or thickness etc. I'd better check that for next season.

Probably don't have to say this, but after being blasted, clean with soap and water (pressure wash if possible) and blow dry the cases. Then do it again!! It's amazing where and how much media can be hiding in there!!
I would drill and tap the hole for the water pump removal now too! And don't forget to put the water pump locating bolt in the lower case!! (Been there, done that!!)
In the pics, several of the bolt holes have a black marker dot beside them? Why??

The holes w black marks are the ones that had the threads chased. The glass beads can hangout in there and cause problems. The dots represent the holes that are done so we don't miss one.
