72 T500 - Frame Question

Post by Syd »

Third time luck with the photo...

Can anyone tell me what the threaded holes are for on both sides of the frame on the right hand side of the shocks - see the attached photo. I cannot seem to work out what goes there from my parts drwgs? The threaded holes on the LH side of the shocks (not shown) take the LH & RH indicator threaded studs which also hold the grab rail in place on both sides of the frame.

Good question, my 68 Cobra and 70 MK III do not have this threaded hole, but my 74 does. Have never seen anything attached here.
Be interesting to find out what it's for.

So the 69 MkII does not have those bosses either as I checked mine. Could they have been for an accessory of some sort.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

My '71 does also have them. No idea as to their purpose.

The chrome bolt I have seen in a lot of pictures of T500's that have this, used as a filler I guess.

 Gentlemen I think you'll find that the holes referred to are "JIG" holes to hold the frame in place whilst being welded at the factory! Strangely enough there is the same question being asked about the GT750 Frame holes....lower down near the exhaust pipe mounts..
Cheers,

Strange that the 68-70 models didn't have them.

:) Hi,easy explanation on frames that do & don't,frames may have been sourced from a different manufacturer,or the technical reasoning for using the "JIG" changed...who knows? I have friends with T500's & the welding is terrible on the frames, compared to the range of the Triples ?
