Re walnut blasting....I finally have a half decent compressor to run my sand blasting cabinet, have tried glass beads, soda, and walnut shells. There is limited selection of blasting material I can get where I live, but managed to get 50lbs of walnut media. The walnut shells were a 18/40 grit and didn't work that well on engine cases, I suspect that the grit was too coarse. I tried the walnut shells on cases, cylinder heads and engine side covers. It didn't do a very good job of anything other than removing the clear coat finish, no polished look or removing any of the corrosion on the aluminum. If I find a finer grit, I'll try it again. So far, I have found that glass beads do the best on engine cases, but they do leave that satin, dull look on cases.
