GT550 starter wiring

Hi, this is my first post and hoping for help. I live in N.Ireland and have a GT550A 1976.

I'm working on a GT550 that I bought to restore. I have completely stripped the bike and rebuilding it. It was basically standard and running but the electric starter was disconnected. On tearing it down I found that the motor is still in there and spins when I touch it to a battery, but everything else, wiring and solenoid is gone. So I bought a solenoid on ebay.

Now I'm trying to work out two things...

1. Where exactly the solenoid fits, beside the relay, reg, rec, etc. Anyone link me a photo of the standard arrangement please?
2. The correct route for the wire to the motor. Is it from the starter motor, out the small hole on the left and then up through the other small hole one beside the CCI pipes, behind the left barrel? OR does it go under the front sprocket and up near the rear of the engine. OR something else?

What's the ideal gauge/mm2 of wire I should use when wiring the motor? (I kinda know to look at it but don't know how to order it without seeing it)

Thanks for any help you offer.

The starter cable on my 74 GT550 is routed with the gear position switch wiring, behind the front sprocket, and up to the electrical panel under the left side cover. I am unable to post a pic for a few days.

Thanks, that's a help.

I think have got the wire size sorted too.
