72' T500 left side cover and badge

Post by cliffbarrow2000 »

Help! Where can I get a 72' T500 left side cover and badge? I'm a new member and I'm getting a lot of great new contacts and resources all the time, but I haven't had any luck finding the left side cover and badge for my 1972 T500. There is 1 left side-cover on ebay for $130 and 1 badge for $90 but I am a total Jew (sorry Jewish people) when it comes to spending money. Is there a cheaper way????
Sincerely,

$120 for both badges is still a little high for this poor-boy. I have the right side so I'm gonna wait and see if anything cheaper turns up. At least I can still ride without a sidecover. Thanks to the fella from the land of the Worlds Fastest Indian.

http://www.badgereplicas.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; have the side badges for $Aus 42.50. Don't know about the actual sidecovers though.

The 72 T500 had the big chrome "badges / covers" on the tank and battery cover. Badge Replicas does not offer those as far as I know. Left side covers are fairly easy to find on ebay, usually either reproduction or used, or occasionally a NOS one shows up. Most side covers seem to bring hefty prices though for what they are. The 72 big chrome badges are bit harder to find, but do show up occasionally. There is actually a left one listed on ebay right now. Current bid is $90 with a day to go. ($120 for both is actually a pretty good price).

Thanks guys. The badge replicas website doesn't have the 72 badge. I emailed them about a month ago and they are thinking about doing it but it would be expensive if they did. Also, Yes I saw that badge for $90 on ebay and I bid on it. So far I think I'm the only bidder. I didn't want to but my OBD (old bike disease) was flarring up  . I'll be limping for a week if I win the bid. I also saw a side cover for $35 bucks last night and I almost swallowed my tongue, but it was up to $76 at 4 am this morning. 4 am! Gee whiz I thought I had OBD. I wonder if radiation treatment would help with OBD???

Those are good prices. Thanks! I have good news though. I found the left side cover and badge together for $35 on ebay. They have a couple of little cracks that can be repaired but that's not a problem. They are being shipped to me now. Thanks to all my new 2-stoke friends for your help.

$35 for a side cover with large 72 model badge = smokin' hot deal. Good find.

Yes, I got very lucky! As my grandpa use to say, "Even a blind hog finds a acorn once in a while!" I saw someone on ebay that just posted a bunch of 72 t500 parts and I sent them a message, do they have the left side cover? They said yes and they posted it "buy it now" and sent me a message as soon as they did. I jumped all over it. It was probably posted for 2 or 3 minutes. It's a little rough and has a few little cracks but it still looks pretty good. I wonder does anyone have any advice on re-doing the chrome finish on these kind of plastic pieces???

if you want to rechrome the badge, you'll have to locate a shop that will rechrome plastic. Most shops don't want to mess with plastic parts. It will also be pricey...much more than you paid the badge and cover. It would have been cheaper to bought the $100 NOS badge, than having one rechromed. Some Semichrome and elbow grease will go a long way on that badge though.
