More Anal Questions - 1977 GT500

Post by oldjapanesebikes »

I'm curious about a couple of things:
  • - in the tool kit listing for this bike is something called a 'universal box wrench'. What exactly is it ? Just a spark plug box wrench ? It looks as if it may have a hinged handle. Does anyone have a photo of an original one ? Better still, does anyone have a spare one they want to get rid of ?
  • - there is not a trace of paint on the crankcases of either donor bike engine, so I'm assuming they were not originally painted. I may go ahead and paint them anyway as I just prefer the look, but can someone confirm for me that Suzuki either did, or did not originally paint these cases ?
Thanks !
Ian

the box spanner(universal) you can buy in any bike shop.
engine case's were just polished and lacquered not painted.

Yes - I realise that John, and I also realise the original tool kits are borderline useless, but that wasn't my question so let me re-phrase - does anyone have a good photo of an original tool kit as delivered with a T or GT500 ?

And again, just for clarity - I realise the engine side covers are polished and lacquered - but the upper and lower crankcases also ? I ask as the engine side covers still had lots of lacquer evident, but I don't see a trace of anything on the cases themselves and the ones I have here do not appear to ever have been polished to any real degree.

Lets try it this way. I am looking for a photo of an original tool kit for a T/GT500 that also clearly shows an original item #2.

This might help you narrow down your search.

T500K owners manual shows the universal box wrench.
http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/suzi/ ... manual.pdf

My T500M owners manual shows fewer tools and doesn't show the universal box wrench.

A relative had a T500 back in the early 1970s. Would have been a model before the T500M.

I remember seeing and using a box wrench that could be what you are looking for.
It was of tool-kit quality and had something like five positions of different sizes.
Something like the Sears dog bone wrench.
http://www.sears.com:80/shc/s/p_10153_1 ... 0P?prdNo=1
Only had sockets at one end & they were fixed positions. It didn't swivel the like the Sears tool.

Thank you ! Would it be possible for you to scan that one page from your owner's manual and either post it here, or email it to me ?

The manual is a reproduction I got from Paul Miller via eBay. His current list of available manuals:

Matt came through with the answer - many thanks !

The part I was curious about is item 16 and part number 09816-00018, with its associated handle item 17 and part number 09816-00019. Its a scary thought, :wth: but now I'm happy 8)
