Just received my buffing and polishing kit from Caswell and got it set up today.
Can anyone tell me what the black emery bar and a Sisal wheel corresponds to in the
way of grit, 600,800 ?
Pretty sure I have followed the buffing/polishing manual to the letter and I just thought I would get a more aggressive cut on aluminum then I am getting.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: A buffing question
Emery and Sisal is about as aggressive as it gets IIRC. What sort of bench grinder/polisher are you using and what diameter is the wheel/mop?

Re: A buffing question
1/3 hp motor running a double end mandrel with 6" wheels at approx 3200 rpm.
Did some more experimentation today and have found that the aluminum covers I am working on are so badly pitted that I had to go down to 220 and then bring them back up
360, 600, 800 then emery and sisal, brown compound and spiral sewn then white compound and flanell. I came in from the shop looking like a coal miner but the covers are
beautiful (to me)

Don't forget to wear gloves and a face mask - a cheap paper one will work fine and keep most of that garbage out of your lungs.
