Hi boys, just p/u a 1975 T500, it's quite rough but salvageable.
This is my 1st 2 stroke so I have a few questions. My older brother had a 72/T500 when I was a kid and I've never been able to get it out of my head.
I would like to dress this 75 as a 72, what do you guys think about that?
What kind of oil should I use?
What size of battery do these bikes take, 6 volt or 12?
Other than ebay and Paul Miller is there any other sources to buy new or good used parts?
I'm really pumped to get going on this baby, I'll try and get some pics up of it but as I said,
it's not much to look at moment, years of neglect.

Well found that man. Where in the world are you located.
If in the UK try:
Crooks Suzuki (Barrow-in-Furness)
Robinson's Foundry (Kent. They have a very easy to use on-line parts store)
Your local Suzuki dealership (Many parts are still available from Suzuki)
Govenors Bridge (a UK Paul Miller, but with much better attitude)
The advantage with dealing with Crooks/Robinsons/Gov etc. is that they are very knowledgeable and are used to dealing with bike restorations.
The battery should be 12V but I'll let you discover an Oil thread rather than repeat anything here
Painting a 75 T500M in an alternative scheme makes good sense as those 75 chrome tank strips are made from unobtainium.

Those strips are still on my gas and oil tank and are in good shape.
I'm in Toronto. That is a sweet bike, looks brand new.
As for oil, I'm not interested in the Dino/Synth thing, just is it straight oil or 2 stroke oil?

Hi Chris.
You definitly need to use a 2-st oil. I use Castrol Actevo, there are many variations but basically any 2-st oil won't be far off the mark for initial runs.

2-stroke oil in the oil tank (pre mix in the gas tank doesn't work) and a motorcycle gear oil in the transmission. Offcourse there are some olils that are better than the others, but the most important thing is that you have the right volume in the transmission and never run out of it in the oil tank.
